Grilling With Dad!

Bob and Deb gave Donnie a gas grill for Christmas, and let me tell you, we love it! (Especially me, because he wants to cook every night now!) We went to Barnes & Noble and bought a grilling cookbook, and Donnie is well on his way to being a top-notch chef. (He could already cook a mean steak, and his hamburgers were delicious, but he's venturing off into new territory with this cookbook!)
Our little Martha Stewart, Sydni, had to get in on the grilling action yesterday and "help" Dad grill. She found her apron Granny Mar made her, and even wore the special oven mitt, too. For those of you who don't know Sydni very well, she inherited her mother's ability to trip over her own shadow and injure herself without much assistance. Something about her hovering over an open flame made me nervous, but Donnie let her assist him anyway. Of course, if sister is doing it, Makenzi has to give it a try, so before Donnie knew it, he had a few grilling partners to monitor! Apparently, Sydni thinks food that she helped cook tastes waaaayyyyy better than anything Donnie or I cook on our own, so last night's chili dogs were the best she's "ever tasted, EVER!" Maybe if I start letting her help me cook the veggies she will keep the same opinion???

Happy New Year!

Last year, Donnie and I remarried and had tons of fun in Vegas on New Year's. This year, we wanted to stay home and celebrate with our girls, so we had our own family New Year's Party. Donnie bought sparkling grape juice and champagne flutes, and I found New Year's hats and confetti cannons at Walmart. Aunt McCaleb came over for a little while, and we used Sydni's cupcake maker (actually, I ended up making the cupcakes in the oven), and decorated them for our big party! Mak and Syd loved the fact that they were able to stay up late to watch the ball drop, and Mak even asked the next morning if we could have another "PAR-DY". Ringing in 2009 with our girls was so much fun!

Naked Girl poses with her cup cakes.

She had been playing dress up, and now she's dancing. A little too much sugar in that one!

McCaleb was very good at decorating cup cakes!

Makenzi was very good at eating them!

McCaleb made a "2009" cupcake set!

Ooh-la-la Daddy!

Mak puts on a show for us!

Everyone has to try on the hat!

Being silly in their new year tiaras.

Letting out the old year....

And welcoming in the new!

"Cheers!" the girls have a glass of champagne (sparkling grape juice)!

Sydni thought the wine glasses were so "fancy"! She wanted her milk in a wine glass the next morning!

Hart Christmas - Part 4

White Deer was the final stop on our Christmas tour. We were able to hang out with my family, open gifts, and play games. Opening gifts with the Mitchell side and with my Mamaw kept the girls in great "opening gifts practice"! The day after our gatherin in White Deer, we also traveled to Tuttle, Oklahoma on the 27th to surprise my great grandmother for her 92nd birthday party. That was a special moment for me, and I am so happy that we could visit with and hug on my Meme. She was so excited that we were there, and it was the perfect ending to our amazing Christmas!

Hart Christmas - Part 3

The girls had lots of practice leading up to Christmas Eve night, and boy were they excited! We invited Pop and Granny to spend the night so they could see what Santa brought the girls. After putting out our "Reindeer Food" and placing our cookies and chocolate milk out (did you know that Santa prefers chocolate?), the girls were ready for bed!
Sydni was up first, bouncing and excited, while poor Mak didn't seem to wake up for nearly half and hour after she drug her out of bed! This was the first Christmas that Sydni was truly "into it" and she oohed and ahhhed over every gift and stocking stuffer. Santa's big gift was a trampoline, which was a HUGE hit with the girls! We've been jumping on it each and everyday, not matter what the weather. After all of the wrapping paper was cleared, the girls had entirely TOO MUCH stuff from Santa...they must have been really good this year!
