For the past three years, I've let the girls have 100% say in what they are going to be for Halloween. Each year they surprise me with their choices, and this year was not exception! I mean, come on, what kid signs up to be the frumpy, nerdy girl who wears an orange turtle neck? Answer: MAKENZI!!! When Mak requested to be Velma from Scooby Doo, Sydni willing signed-on to be Daphne; frump-tastic Velma's pretty counterpart. Way to take one for the team, Syd...agree to be the attractive chick in the group! Even though I wouldn't have picked out the costumes myself, I thought they turned out to be an original and cute choice. It's safe to say we did not see any other "Daphnes" or "Velmas" during our trek around the neighborhood, and lots of people seemed to recognize the two members of Mystery Inc.! Makenzi was so funny, marching around the neighborhood like a midget secretary! She took the role of Velma so SERIOUSLY...we had to refer to her as "Velma" and she wouldn't respond to "Makenzi" the entire night. Sydni loves any costume that requires lipstick or eye makeup, so I obliged and painted up eyes like I figured Daphne would for a night out hunting spooky treats! Such a fun Halloween this year!
Mystery solved! We found all of the candy possible in our neighborhood!

More of Sydni's School Work...
Do you know how much "stuff" a Kindergartner brings home on a daily basis? TONS!! Instead of trying to keep all of it (and possibly creating a fire hazard in our attic), I take pictures of the work I think is cute or odd! Sydni's coloring habits fit into the latter of those two categories. I'm pretty sure she has the attention span of her mother, so having to color an entire picture is somewhat painful for her. She rushes through it and wants to move on to the next activity. It's so funny to see yourself in your child!
Last week, her class was studying the color "white" and I thought her ghosts were really good! If I draw something for her, and explain my process, she catches on very quickly. We do a lot of "free drawing" versus coloring.

Sydni's 1st School Picture!
I am told by several informed sources that after the Kindergarten picture is snapped, it's downhill from there! The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th pictures follow in quick succession...where has the time gone? It is so cliche, but I can not believe I have a five year old (who rocked her first school pictures)! Here's to many more fabulous school pics, Syd-o!

Makenzi Singing - From Last Year
I was going through videos on my hard drive and found this one of Makenzi from last year. It still makes me smile! She was sick during filming, so her runny nose adds a little somethin' to the video! LOL!

Defining Makki-Doodle
Where do I begin in defining such a goofy gal?
She's silly. She's sweet.
She's silly. She's sweet.
The nickname "Makki-Doodle" started at daycare. Her teachers called her that. Her friends would shout, "bye, Makki-Doodle!" when I would pick her up each day. I asked her why they called her "Makki-Doodle" and she replied, "'Cause I'm a doodle, Mommy." That does make a lot of sense. She is a doodle! Constantly "doodling" in things she shouldn't, and "doodling" around the house; pestering her sister, coloring on stuff she shouldn't, making messes, and of course, entertaining the masses. The nickname fit her so well that it has stuck with her for nearly a year now. So when you hear us refer to Makenzi as "Doodle" that's the story behind the making of Makki-Doodle!

The Girls are Gleeks!
We've been watching the new show GLEE on Fox, and the girls usually play during the scenes with dialogue, but pay close attention to the dance sequences. Here they are, doing their best to imitate the Glee girls performance of Beyonce's "Halo" and "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves.
Making Pizzas...Who Needs Delivery?!
I feel bad that I haven't posted any of Makenzi's art work! Keep in mind that she's three, so some of the things that she brings home do not really make sense, but here is a painting she brought home today:
According to Makenzi, this is Daddy playing with a rainbow. The rainbow is a toy, and he's throwing it. Hmmm....I think this qualifies as an "abstract painting"!

Picture Day!
Sydni's first-ever school picture day was this week, and boy, did we "prepare" for the big event. I'm not kidding when I say we spent nearly half an hour picking out the perfect outfit! I always knew Sydni was a fashionista, but I didn't understand the extent of her obsession. The teenage years are going to be VERY interesting, to say the least.
